Meet the Owners: John & Melissa Ballenger (and Tucker)

John retired in 2000 from his career as a sea going Chief Engineer (CE) on an LNG tanker. He held a CE license, unlimited horse power, unlimited waterways; steam, diesel, and gas turbine. He retired a second time in 2016 from Chevron where he was a Marine Facilities Construction Supervisor. John now enjoys travel, pickleball, and flyfishing.

After fifteen years of making and selling fused glass art, Melissa discontinued her involvement in the world of glass art to pursue her interest in Pickleball. Her fused glass art can be seen as far away as India, Germany, Australia, Portugal, and England, as well as many homes in the USA and especially in the Pacific Northwest.

Melissa new passion for Pickleball inspired her to become a certified Pickleball coach and she enjoys holding clinics at Big Rock Pickleball. Melissa has always possessed an entrepreneurial spirit. The glass studio, Ballenger Glass Art, where she created decorative and functional glass art has been remolded into a two-bedroom Airbnb called Big Rock Guest House.

Tucker is their beloved yellow lab. He is friendly and well mannered and may pay you a visit in the parking lot when you come to Big Rock Pickleball.
